Stress Less When Working from Home

I don’t know about you, but I am experiencing pandemic fatigue!

Working from home can be stressful especially when we are limited to the places we can go and missing loved ones. It is important that we consider a few things when faced with working from home. Firstly – it’s okay not to be okay.

We need to be compassionate with ourselves and allow ourselves to feel our emotions but be mindful not get sucked into an exhausting loop of negativity.

Step Away From What You Are Doing Regularly

Setting your to do list every morning will give you structure to your day but ensure to factor in breaks. Take regular mini breaks throughout the day to prepare healthy food or snacks.

Time Management Is So Important

Check off as much as you can on a Friday - this way, you can eliminate excessive worry over projects that need to be accomplished. Try to get the big things done or sufficiently completed, so you’re ahead of the game come Monday. This will ensure you don’t find yourself working over the weekend, I know this is very easy to do.

Write Down Or Journal Any Worries Or Stresses

Any free time you have before your weekend begins can be used as a transition period for all your work-related worries or anxiety. During this time, you should work through your problems and excessive worry about upcoming deadlines and reviews. It’s impossible to turn off all those negative thoughts when it comes to work, so giving yourself some time to adjust and destress. Writing down your thoughts and feelings will help and you can use this regular weekly entry to highlight any reoccurring issues.

Stay Hydrated

Drinking enough water each day is crucial for many reasons - for example, to regulate body temperature, keep joints lubricated, prevent infections, deliver nutrients to cells, and keep organs functioning properly. Being well-hydrated also improves sleep quality, cognition, and mood.

Take A Walk Outside In The Fresh Air

Make sure you are having a proper lunch break - maybe pick up the phone and have a chat with a friend as you walk. Talking about your stresses will help you to sort through them. Talk to friends and family who can offer you advice or, at the very least, an ear. Sometimes all it takes is a little chat to clear our worries.

Plan Your Weekend

I am now planning my weekend like I do my work week. I know it sounds bizarre and it doesn’t work for everybody but I found early into lockdown that the weekends loomed empty and the thought of having nothing to do gave me anxiety. Now, I will plan out my Saturday to include exercise first thing then hobbies, crafting, cooking, reading time and ensure I have time to enjoy movies with the family.
